Beaven and Associates Private Tutors of Andover was founded in 1976 by Peter Beaven, an Andover native with nearly 40 years of teaching experience.
In 1979, Mr. Beaven established Passport Exchange, a program that brings students from Spain, France, and Italy, to stay with families in New England each summer, and sends American students to visit these students in their native countries. He also leads educational trips to Europe.
In 2010, we moved from Main Street to Dundee Park, a short walk from Phillips Academy (Andover) and downtown that also offers plentiful free parking.
Beaven & Associates prides itself on offering individualized tutoring in a full range of subjects, at reasonable prices. We welcome students from elementary school through college. Each program is self-paced and takes into account a student’s learning style, aptitude, and potential. Our tutors use the Socratic Method, engaging and challenging their students so that they not only master the fundamentals, but learn to think independently.
Our tutors are:
- Dedicated
We create customized programs for each student. - Goal-Oriented
Students contract with their tutors to reach their goals within an agreed-upon time frame. - Challenging
Tutors strive to enhance each student’s intellectual curiosity, imagination, and critical thinking skills.
We also prepare students to excel on standardized tests for private preparatory school, college, and graduate school admissions, such as the SSAT, SAT, and GRE.
More than three decades of experience have taught us that test-taking tips and tricks will not raise test scores significantly if a student does not have a solid understanding of the subject. We help students achieve their best scores by evaluating and addressing the gaps in each student’s knowledge of math, English, and other subjects, while building on his or her strengths. This approach not only raises test scores, but builds a foundation for future academic success.
